What is a Korean style Grill stick?
Tteok-galbi is a delicious Korean dish that came from the Korean Royal Court Cuisine that dates back to Joseon Era, 1392-1876. Korean History says, as Kings and Royalty were not supposed to gnaw on beef short ribs, this dish was created. ‘Galbi’ means ribs in Korean. ‘Tteok’ means rice cake. The name was given because the process of cutting, marinating and shaping the meat is similar to the process of making rice cake. Meat is minced and marinated in a sweet, salty, and savory sauce, and then grilled or barbecued over charcoal. Tteok-galbi is sweet, chewy, juicy, and known to be tender as the meat is already chopped into small pieces and softened. In modern South Korea, Tteok Galbi is a popular street snack. It is a local specialty in Gyonggi Province and South Jeolla Province. There is a Tteok Galbi Street in Gwangju, South Korea.
